At first just a check on a bucketlist, but after my first trip to visit the famous snow monkeys of japan known for hanging out in the hotsprings in the depth of winter, I found an instant kinship. My love of winter started young, living in Alaska and working on a mountain in Oregon in my youth, but seeing living beings so closely related to humans not only surviving the harsh mountains of northern Nagano Japan, but thriving and having fun in the winter landscape, well they not only earned my deepest admiration, but a bit of envy if I’m being honest. Visiting the northern most primates on earth are now a regular part of my winter travels in Japan as I capture their majestic life style with my lens
